Burst Magazine!

I've been featured in this months issue of Burst, a rather awesome digital magazine that showcases artists from all over the world. The issue was about character design so I couldn't NOT submit something! There are some great illustrators in the issue - check it out!

Zombies, Kid's Books and Cons!

Well, the last month or so has been a bit hectic; I had some work for a publisher getting samples done for both the Bologna Book Fair and the London Book Fair. I've had feedback and the samples were very well received! Hopefully I'll be doing some more samples for them to present to a supermarket chain (no names yet, I'm afraid) to hopefully get picked up by and distributed. Exciting stuff! Here are some of the pics I did for them:

When I was told one of the books would be about monsters, I couldn't have been happier! This was a lot of fun to do; the book is a novelty book with googly eyes placed throughout, hence the uncharacteristic big eyes, as opposed to my usual dots-for-eyes! I like the square guy and the bat :P

Second book sample was for a farm-based story.

My zombie zine is now at the printers and will hopefully be ready in the next couple of weeks. It's been so long since I did a full comic (I still get people asking me when the next issue of Guide Dog Detective will be done) that I'm not entirely happy with it, but hopefully this just means that the next one will be better. I want to be able to have some books to sell at cons again and this is the first step! The zine will come with some awesome goodies; if you're at the Bristol Expo in May, drop by and get one! :D

Speaking of cons, I've got a few coming up and the inevitable "crap, I'd better start making stuff" mentality has set in! I've just ordered oodles of keyrings, magnets and sticker paper ready for evenings of cutting and clipping and I've got some other ideas on the horizon too. Expect lots of new prints too!

The Incredible Railway Activity Book!

I finally managed to get hold of a copy of the activity book I illustrated at the end of last year! I'm so much happier with it than I thought I'd be; It has foil text on the cover and just looks great! I've been told it's selling well in the museum and I'll hopefully be doing some more work for them shortly. Now I just need to get up to York and buy a few copies to give to family members! XD

I don't know how Wes Anderson does it, but he manages to create the most amazing characters for his films. The Life Aquatic is no exception, with fantastic performances and a brilliant soundtrack. And it's also one of the only films I can stand Owen Wilson in besides Bottle Rocket.

Four more friends...

Zombie Captain America makes another appearance (I painted him a year or so ago) but this time he's got a bird nesting in his head! Hopefully prints of Ultimate Nick Fury and Mr Fantastic will go well. I had to draw The Foul King for my own amusement; I love that film!

Do The Wolf Dance!

One of my favourite scenes from Teen Wolf is the school prom, where Scott proceeds to "wow" everyone with a dance that only a werewolf could do (apparently). Watch this to learn the dance and be the envy of your friends!

More Character Prints!

Con Season will be in full swing come May, so I'm starting on new prints to sell. Have some Marvel and Akira based goodies!

Undead Alert Cards

My zombie comic, Brains Etc, is very nearly completed and will be released at the Bristol Small Press Expo in May! Expect lots of goodies to go with it including a mini comic, stickers and a special edition print only available with the zine :D

A busy and exciting last few days!

Do you ever get those days where you feel very down about your work only to have something awesome happens to make you feel a billion times better? I had one of those days last week! On Thursday, I set aside a chunk of time to send work out to publishers. I emailed people, rang people, printed stuff and made promo packs ready to send out in the afternoon. I had a list of places to try and ended up ringing one of them to find out if they accept submissions and who to send them to. The very lovely person I spoke to gave me her email address and I sent some samples to them. 10 minutes later, I accepted an offer to work on a project for them to take to the Bologna Children's Book Fair! Needless to say, I was absolutely delighted by this turn of events. Even more so when they said they'd like me to do four board books for them. Hopefully I'll be able to post some images soon as it's a really fun project!

I finally got the other mini comics in my four comic set printed today for the London Comics and Small Press Expo! To join Cryptids and Gross Stuff are Zombies and Ninja Skills. I know that Zombies and Ninjas have been done to death, but hopefully I've done something not-too-boring with them.

Secret Project!

I can't say much about this but for the last few weeks I've been working on a children's book proposal with a writer and have just finished a batch of illustrations for it. It's not so secret that I can't post a couple of pictures:

...but it IS so secret that I can't tell you anything about them! The pictures may look like they say it all, but there's a lot more behind them than first glance. I can tell you the book is aimed at kids who like gross stuff; if you ever read the Little Dracula storybooks or like Horrible History or Horrible Science books, odds are you'll like this. More on this story as it (hopefully) develops! :P

Mini Comics, batch 1!

Two out of four of my mini comics for the London Small Press Expo are printed and packaged. Each diddy 15 page comic comes with a full colour print and there will be four in the series to collect. Here are the first couple:

Never heard of the Mongolian Death Worm? Read about his escapades here. I like to think my comics are educational as well as pointless! :P Ninjas and Zombies will be done for next week and I can see more mini comics being made for future cons. I've already got plans for titles including Video Games, Sharks, Mexican Wrestlers, Robots and a Japanese Phrase Book. If you can't make the con, fear not as I will be selling these in my online shop soon!
