Nature Is Gross: Jellyfish

I wont post too many pictures from this comic lest I spoil it completely, but I thought everyone needed to know this fact. The comic itself will be in black and white with a colour cover :P

Nature Is Gross!

I'm making a start on my next zine, Nature Is Gross! It'll be a zine packed with facts and drawings about all the more disgusting aspects of the natural world. I've already got a list of facts ready to be drawn and I'm looking forward to putting everything together!

Mini Comics, batch 1!

Two out of four of my mini comics for the London Small Press Expo are printed and packaged. Each diddy 15 page comic comes with a full colour print and there will be four in the series to collect. Here are the first couple:

Zine + print = awesome!

The Cryptids comic comes with a print of Sasquatch - it had to be!

The Gross Stuff zine comes with a dung beetle print. It seemed logical.

We're talking deep stuff here.

Never heard of the Mongolian Death Worm? Read about his escapades here. I like to think my comics are educational as well as pointless! :P Ninjas and Zombies will be done for next week and I can see more mini comics being made for future cons. I've already got plans for titles including Video Games, Sharks, Mexican Wrestlers, Robots and a Japanese Phrase Book. If you can't make the con, fear not as I will be selling these in my online shop soon!

Busy busy busy!

You know how you get really busy weeks but have hardly anything to show for it? This has been one of those weeks! Well, not that I don't have anything to show for it, just that a lot of the work I've been doing, I CAN'T show. I've been working on a pretty cool project for a writer, working up some illustrations for a kid's book that will be pitched at various book fairs. Fingers crossed it gets some interest! I can't say much at the moment, only that I've been drawing zombies and people transforming into horrible things!
I have started working on stuff to take to my first con of the year though; the London Comic and Small Press Expo, formally the Web and Mini Comix Thing. As the Thing was no longer running, it got taken over by the awesome peeps who have vamped up the Bristol Con and I can't wait to see how it goes. The Web and Mini Comix Thing was the first con I ever went to as an exhibitor and has pretty much been the reason I go to cons so I'm glad it hasn't been canned. Here are some of the bits I've been making:

Zombie key rings and magnets! It's a dull job cutting out all of those little squares but the end product looks awesome!

Some finished magnets; more designs to come too!

Finished zombie magnets!

Fortune cookies...

I was hoping to have my new big zine, Brains Etc. finished for this but tight deadlines this month have pushed it back a bit. In the meantime, I'll be making 4 mini-comics that will be sold in packs with a print and some other goodies. You get to choose from Gross Stuff, Cryptids, Ninjas or Zombies! Or all 4! :P
I will also be selling a few Transformers bits at Roll Out/Roll Call on the 6th of March as my boyf is a guest. A busy couple of weeks but worth it!

Zombie Apocalypse Shopping List

This is a preview page for my zine, Brains Etc. which I'll be selling at upcoming comic cons. The zine itself will be in black and white, but you could always use it as a colouring book too!

More zombie goodies!

It's been quite a while since I made any comics to sell at conventions, so I thought I'd do a zombie zine for this year's shows. But as well as that, I'll be making a whole bunch of stickers and key rings to sell alongside it! I think I'll pop a full colour zombie print in with the zines too as a free gift. The zine itself will be black and white with a colour cover. Now to get drawing!

Green Bean Zine!

Working in comic shop from 2003-2007, I met a lot of people with the same interests as me; not just with comics, but with illustration too. One of those people is still a good friend of mine now and an awesome illustrator to boot! Katie Green is an omni-talented artist who, on top of all the other cool stuff she does, produces a monthly zine which is well worth a look. The Green Bean is packed full of recipes, sewing patterns, book reviews and lots of lovely artwork. The first two issues are available in Katie's shop.

Katie asked me to be involved in issue 2 which was fantastic; I had a small interview and we collaborated on a conversation comic in the same vein as James Kochalka's conversations with artists like Craig Thompson and Jeffrey Brown. It was an absolute hoot and we plan to do another longer one in colour soon! Katie has very kindly let me post our comic here:

As you can see, we both very different styles but I think that's what makes the comic so much fun to read! Where my style is bold and absurd, Katie's is very detailed and grounded. This made the whole process of drawing together very interesting to say the least!
