Little Bitty Dredd!

I went to see Dredd 3D a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good; I wasn't particularly bothered about watching it and went in with zero expectations and really enjoyed it. The 3D was actually worth seeing and I loved the atmosphere and minimalism. Even though I worked in a comic shop for over 3 years, I never really picked up any 2000AD. I had one issue of it that my mum bought me for holiday reading back in 1994 (was never quite sure what made her pick it up as me and my brother had never bought 2000AD). I still have that comic somewhere and the one story I really remember from it is Slaughterbowl which I can't find anywhere but would love to read again. I'm quite tempted to pick up a couple of the Judge Dredd case files at some point and give Dredd a proper go.

My very talented other half, John-Paul Bove is currently colouring/grey-toning a story for the Judge Dredd Megazine at the moment and also coloured a cover for the upcoming IDW series, drawn by Jim Starlin no less! Anyway, seeing the film gave me a push to actually draw a Dredd (apologies to the many people who have asked me to for years!) and quite enjoyed doodling him and his satisfying colour scheme!

A few cons ago, I was asked by someone to draw on their Wolverine variant cover. After the initial panic of ruining their comic passed, I gave it a go! I think I might try a few more of these and possibly sell them as prints!

Zombie Captain America makes another appearance (I painted him a year or so ago) but this time he's got a bird nesting in his head! Hopefully prints of Ultimate Nick Fury and Mr Fantastic will go well. I had to draw The Foul King for my own amusement; I love that film!

Hero Chan is a rather awesome blog dedicated to all things Superhero! It's a new blog and one that I think will become very popular. And not just because of some of the images that grace the left-hand side of the screen...

One of the founders of Hero Chan is Justin Page, a graphic designer from America who runs one of my favourite blogs ever, Rampaged Reality - an awesome collection of video game, film and superhero artwork from all over the web. I've been featured on both blogs and it's always a pleasure to know my work is watched by these talented peeps!

After looking through my blog for something the other day, I realised just how many existing characters I've cuted up! Here they all together; they can also be bought as separate prints from my online store. Starman and Stargate!

Here are two new commissions I recently worked on: JSA Starman and Teal'c from Stargate. In a move of extreme idiocy on my part, I totally forgot to scan them in before sending them off so these are the best pics I have! I really really enjoy making these characters for people for a couple of reasons: I'm always surprised by what people want as most of the time as they're characters I would never really think to do and so are all the more challenging and fun; the people I get these commissions from are always extremely nice and a pleasure to work with. A lot of them are comic fans I've met at cons or friends of comic fans who have had commissions from me and passed on the word. Having worked in a comic shop for nearly four years (I left in 2007 just before I went to Japan) I always get a pang of sadness when I get commissions like this as I realise how much I sometimes do miss working in the environment. It's still great to go to cons though and I think I've opened up a whole new market for myself in making these. I really need to get pimping on some comic related sites!

Superhero Medley!

I drew these a while ago for a series of shoe designs which will hopefully be coming out through Kings of Neon soon. Will also be selling them as a pack of stickers - keep an eye out!
