My new comic is almost ready to send to the printers! May Contain Sharks is a collection of the comics I've been drawing in the last few months. I'm very excited about this new book and hope to really push it at UK comic cons in 2014.

I'm putting together a little A6 book of the Doodle Doods I started to draw yesterday; it's going to be a little activity book too and I couldn't help but draw another one - they're so addictive!

I've been slowly working my way through completing the comics for my new small-press book; I'm having a great time with this and hope that people get as excited about the book as I am. I'm hoping to have the book completed by early next year and on sale for next year's cons. The book is still untitled but will be packed full of comics about sea creatures, dinosaurs, pirates, robots, monsters, radishes, lizard brothers and much more! Here are some snippets from various WIP strips...

Last year, I wanted to make a full-colour book to sell at cons alongside the black and white ones I'd made. I didn't have any particular comic in mind but realised that I had enough of a series of images to make a book. I then thought it might be a nice idea to start a series under the same title, but have each volume totally different. I really liked this concept and ended up making two books to sell under the same banner and so The Cute and the Weird was born! I'm better at creating one-off images and gag cartoons than I am at sequential stuff; I find it a bit harder to make something with a beginning, middle and end but I really enjoy dropping a character into the middle of a strange situation and letting the viewer decide how they got there. The Cute and the Weird is a great excuse for me to collect together a gaggle of random events and characters but still have them tie together in some way.
So far there are three books in the series; Volume 1 and 3 have a bit more structure to them, whereas Volume 2 is more like a mini art book. I like the idea of each one being based around a central idea or theme and I'm already planning the next one. I'm starting to really enjoy making the books and am aiming to release a couple a year alongside other small press titles, dependant on workload. I'm hoping that people will start to see the series as something fun and a bit different! :P

My new book turned up today! I was hoping I might have finished The Cute and the Weird Volume 3 before the Bristol Comics Expo but got it to the printers a little bit too late . I will have it for the MCM Expo though, so please do swing by my table if you would like a copy!

I recently got to take part in an awesome little project with a bunch of talented UK small pressers in which we made a card game featuring some of our characters! The game is akin to Top Trumps and also is a nifty way for people to check out work by all of the artists and check out the cool stuff that small pressers do. I have 2 cards in the deck - see if you can spot them in the pics below! :P
The deck was the brainchild of the lovely and talented Nich Angell. Nich rounded us all up and the result will be seen at various cons around the UK this year. I'll be selling some packs at LSCC in a few weeks time - come and check it out! In the meantime, check out the Off Panel Facebook page for more details :D

Well, things have exploded into a cavalcade of busyness at the moment; I'm working full steam on 4 books that are due by February. I'm pretty stressed at the moment but hopefully it'll be for the greater good! The books are an awesome continuation of the series I'm working on for the American publishers (hopefully I can talk about these very soon and share some pictures!) so at least it's enjoyable stress! :P Anyway, as I've been a bit slack on my blog I thought I'd do a giveaway!
Up for grabs are a copy of my latest self-published effort, I Know Sasquatch, a sasquatch sticker and a whole bunch of sasquatch prints. All you have to do is leave a sasquatch related comment, along with your email address should you win. I'll pick the winner at random on the 24th of November. Good luck! :D

Hooray! My new book, I Know Sasquatch arrived yesterday! I'll be selling this little chronicle of the day I met Sasquatch in the woods near my house at MCM Expo and Thought Bubble this year. It is also available in my online store!

My new small press book, The Rather Odd Alphabet was delivered today! It's 32 pages of weird and wonderful animals and words and you'll be able to pick it up from me at all the comic cons I'll be attending. However, if you simply cannot wait that long, it's also available in my online store. Be sure to check out my other books which now have new prices and shipping prices! :D

I didn't realise how many Small Press books I've self published over the last year; I think it's safe to say I've got the bug! Although I started to self publish my own comic when I worked in a comic shop back in 2004-2007, it's only really been in the last year or so that I've gotten back into it and started to realise the potential in printing books myself. One thing I love about self publishing is having complete control over what I write and draw; if I have an idea for an activity book or a comic, I can do whatever I want because I know I'm the one paying for printing costs and I have to push myself to sell it. There's also a huge amount of satisfaction (and mild terror) when you receive a box of books from the printers and see them in the flesh for the first time! Somebody recently commented on how much they liked the overall look of my books and how I have my own creative brand going on. Although I feel a lot of my book covers look a bit samey (I'm not the world's best designer) I do like how they all tie together. This is also what I like about a lot of my friends that self publish too; they all have a very distinct and unique look to all of their books (I'll be doing a blog post about some of my favourite small pressers soon!). I've been a part of the UK Small Press scene for a while now and have made some awesome friends through it, all of them very talented.
With the exception of Brains Etc, all of my books have been printed through Inky Little Fingers. I cannot recommend these guys enough; they're fast, easy to print through and the quality, especially colour stuff, is outstanding. They are also extremely reasonable price-wise. Although I only have an electronic proof to check before my books go to print (you can get hard copies but they cost extra) I've come to trust that unless I mess something up on my end, they always do a good job.
Hopefully in a few weeks time I'd have printed my Rather Odd Alphabet and I've made a start on another book, this one with a little bit more narrative that I'm hoping will be really fun!

I decided to make another colouring book, but this time a little A6 book on recycled paper. It looks very cute and is full of little characters to colour!
